PRINCE2 stands for Projects IN Controlled Environments. It is a project management framework used since its introduction in 1996. PRINCE2 certifications are awarded to professionals who can clear the qualifying examination after getting adequate training. The certifications are awarded by PeopleCert and AXELOS. These certifications are highly valued across the globe.

There are a few PRINCE2 certifications you can pursue. Anybody interested in a career in project management can pursue the PRINCE2 Foundation certification. To be eligible for the PRINCE2 Practitioner certification you should have the Foundation certification or an equivalent qualification. The same applies for PRINCE2 Agile certifications too, while the foundation certification does not have any prerequisite you would need to fulfil an eligibility in terms of another qualifying certification.

Yes, you will need to renew your PRINCE2 Foundation certification every three years by taking the exam or by getting a higher certification like PRINCE2 Practitioner. You can also earn 60 CPDs as required to maintain the “current” status of your certification beyond three years.
